While on the Ideal Protein plan I am not supposed to drink alcoholic beverages. Most of these drinks have a ton of sugar and calories…and to be honest I would rather eat my calories than drink them anyway.
But, what are you supposed to do in social situations when you are choosing not to drink? Happy hours, dates, dinners, going out with friends, dinner parties usually all include some sort of beverage!
I have become quite the master at just not drinking alcoholic beverages. The most important thing to remember is this: All the occasions where you would go out and drink are really set up so that you can interact and be with friends, family, coworkers, etc. So, instead of concentrating on the drinks, concentrate on those around you!
However, here are a few options that I habitually rely on when I don’t want to order an alcoholic beverage:
I have been trying to make the perfect cauliflower tortilla for a while now. Time after time they didn’t hold up. You couldn’t pick up the tortillas without them falling apart or they got weird when you refrigerated them. But, alas!! I finally got the right combination of ingredients…and for my fellow Ideal Protein folks out there, there is not a shred of cheese in them!
No matter your Valentine’s Day status this year I think you need to treat yourself! Valentine’s Day (or as I lovingly call it – Single’s Awareness Day) can be another hard holiday for those of us trying to stay on our healthy path. Whether you have a Valentine or not the chocolate and candy hearts are everywhere!
So, I put together a super easy meal that you can make for yourself or your loved ones that will make you forget all about those sweet treats (I know wishful thinking…but this meal is pretty darn good!)
Recently, I went to my favorite co-op, Common Market, for lunch. They have a great selection – hot food bar, salad bar, made-to-order sandwiches, smoothies, coffees, juices, and soups. For this trip all I really wanted was some soup, it had been really cold and I needed something to warm me up!
Now, when you are on Ideal Protein its really hard to find a soup that meets the requirements – especially one you didn’t make yourself. However, Common Market is usually really good about having something. That day they were featuring a roasted red pepper soup that looked delicious. Granted their soup did have some cream in it, but everything else was IP phase one approved! I decided to have a small cup…and it was delicious! It was so good that I actually thought about it for the rest of the week! How can I make this soup at home? If I made it at home I could take the cream out…then it would be IP friendly! So, this past week I embarked on a quest to make the perfect IP friendly Roasted Red Pepper Soup!
