Welcome back for part two of my Let’s Travel: Florida blog. Hopefully, you enjoyed learning about St. Augustine. It really is a lovely little city with plenty of history and charm.
Now, let’s move on to the second part of my trip…Universal’s Wizarding World of Harry Potter! This part of the trip fulfilled a bucket list item for me. Harry Potter has been a huge part of my life from the beginning. I have always loved to read and I can remember the moment that I got the first Harry Potter book. My grandmother picked it up for me as a present…and as they say, the rest is history!
I have read every book (multiple times), I have listened to the audiobooks, and I have seen all the movies. It was time to actually go to Hogwarts and Diagon Alley…or at least as close as I am ever going to get 🙂
After leaving St. Augustine we made our way back to Orlando and checked in to our hotel. We had some time to kill so we went straight to the pool!
That night we went over to Universal’s City Walk. This area is great because it is open to the public, no tickets needed, AND if you go after 6pm parking is free!
We had some Mexican food at Antojitos. It was really good considering it was in an amusement park and the prices were reasonable. Just be warned there is a mariachi band that goes for it in there! If you are looking for somewhere that is low key this isn’t the place for you! We also made a quick pitstop into Voodoo Donut…because you know…you just have to 🙂
After dinner, it was time to get ready for our Harry Potter adventures.
Now, I keep prefacing all of this by saying Harry Potter, Harry Potter…but when you go to Universal there is a lot more to see than just Harry Potter. We had access to both Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure. We made a plan to spend the majority of our time in the Harry Potter section, while still experiencing everything else the parks had to offer. And around 13 hours and 25,000 steps later we came, we saw, and we conquered!
We started off in Diagon Alley:
We made our way through Knockturn Alley:
Then we took the Hogwarts Express to Hogsmeade:
Once we got to Hogsmeade we had lunch at the Three Broomsticks…which included fish and chips and Butterbeer!
And we got a close up of the castle:
This trip was basically everything my little Harry Potter heart desired! The attention to detail was crazy and minus it being like 100 degrees outside it really felt like you were in the Harry Potter universe.
My favorite ride was Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey. Escape from Gringotts was a close second.
Outside of Harry Potter…both roller coasters, The Incredible Hulk and Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit were so good. Also, Race Through New York with Jimmy Fallon was my favorite 3D/4D experience.
So there you have it! My vacation to Florida. I think we got a good range of beach and amusement park…and I mean, of course, Harry Freaking Potter!!!
What did you do for vacation this year?
