Let’s Get Active: Skyrobics

I work out quite regularly. It used to not be like this. If you would have asked me last year how often I exercised I would have said maybe twice a year! But, now with tons of new energy, I love to get my work out on! I take a couple different classes, but today I want to talk about Skyrobics.

Now, many of you might be saying what the hell is Skyrobics? And when I started taking this class last winter I was thinking the same thing! Skyrobics is an aerobics class on trampolines! The class is offered through Skyzone Trampoline Parks. Skyzones are becoming more and more popular with locations throughout the country. Have a look at their website to see if there is one near you.

Skyrobics is an hour long class that combines cardio and strength training to give you a full body workout that can burn up to 1,000 calories an hour!

Classes can range from a whole hour of cardio to circuits to HITT, etc. depending on the instructor. Each participant gets their own trampoline and you are on your way.

A word of caution: The first class you do (unless you are really fit) will feel like its going to kill you. At first, I couldn’t even make it through the full 60 minutes. I had to work up to it over time. But trust me, after to get used to the workout you will love it! There is music, fun, and the hour will be over before you know it!

Here is an example workout:

  1. 20 minutes of jumping (cardio): A minute each of different jumps that could include – jumping jacks, butt drops, high knees, high jumps, sky laps (jumping from trampoline to trampoline around the court), etc.                                                                                                 fullsizerenderimg_2185
  2. 30 minutes of arms/leg/abs: A minute each of exercise could include – bicep curls, tricep curls, rows, rainbows, lateral arm raises, planks, squats, lunges, donkey kicks, fire hydrants, crunches, ball passes, Russian twists, flutter kicks, etc.                                          img_2222img_2228img_2232
  3. 5 minutes of jumping: similar to what you started with.
  4. Finish up with light stretching.

Note: We usually take water breaks every 20 minutes.

If there is a Skyzone near you I highly recommend giving it a go! You will feel like a kid again jumping around and having fun!

  1. I LOVE SKYROBICS! It makes exercise fun. Coordination and balance are also benefits to the class. Like Jamie, I too had difficulty taking an hour long class at first… but now I can get through 2 classes back to back. Brenda, Jamie and I just did it tonight! I feel tired yet energized (if that makes any sense). I will sleep good tonight (yet another benefit!).
